The constitutional right of access to information of public interest is regulated by Law no. 544/2001. According to this law, any citizen has the right to request such information from public authorities, which have the explicit obligation to provide it either ex officio or upon request. Public-interest information is considered to be any information that refers to or results from the activities of a public institution or authority or of an autonomous public enterprise that uses public funds.
