A Tribute To György Ligeti International Festival

The biennial festival, organized by the Transylvania Art and Science Association in partnership with ANMGD, aims to highlight Transylvania as a pivotal and defining space in the development of György Ligeti (1923-2006), one of the most original contemporary artists and a cosmopolitan avant-gardist with an overwhelming influence. The festival boasts international stature and impeccable organizational standards, thanks to the involvement of local authorities from Cluj and Târnăveni, the “Péter Eötvös” Foundation in Budapest, and the “Paul Sacher” Foundation in Basel (the repository of Ligeti’s manuscripts) in the project led by the festival’s director, musicologist Bianca Țiplea-Temeș. The Arcadia Quartet (Cluj) and the Amadinda Percussion Ensemble (Budapest) delivered landmark performances during the first two editions (2016 and 2018). The event also features an international musicology conference.
