After two initial national editions in 1997 and 1999, the “Sigismund Toduță” Foundation decided to resume a composition competition with international participation. Thus, the first edition of the International Composition Competition “Sigismund Toduță” (2015) had as its theme a work for the organ. For the second edition (2017), the chosen instrument was the harp, an instrument subtly yet convincingly appreciated by Sigismund Toduță. The work required for the 2017 competition was a trio for harp and two other instruments of the contestants’ choice. The juries were honored by the participation of renowned composers or performers from Romania and across Europe.
All these editions of the Festival and Competition, bearing the name of the illustrious composer, have promoted through numerous concerts and chamber music recitals a variety of new or well-known works by Sigismund Toduță, and have inspired the publication of others, in line with the mission successively undertaken by different generations of Cluj musicians since 1991.
