The vision of the Elektro Arts Festival is to support digital arts and make them accessible to the public. This concept, articulated by the festival’s founder and artistic director, composer and media artist Associate Professor Dr. Adrian Borza, was first introduced in 2013 when the project was initiated. The festival continues today, with passion, its mission of organizing interdisciplinary artistic events. The festival’s artistic identity, which has matured over time, is in harmony with its vision and mission: the symbiosis of the modern artist with technology.
The festival primarily targets the Romanian audience, especially those in Cluj, and has brought together composers, musicians, choreographers, visual artists, ballet dancers, performers, directors, sound designers, and programmers—both Romanian and international, established professionals and newcomers, students and teachers. The festival has fostered multidisciplinary innovation and disseminated the creations of artists and researchers exploring new modes of expression.
Elektro Arts has enjoyed partnerships with prestigious institutions in Cluj-Napoca, including the Gheorghe Dima National Academy of Music, the University of Art and Design, and the Faculty of Theatre and Television at Babeș-Bolyai University.
As society renews its vitality, the Elektro Arts Festival maintains a mature dialogue with its content creators and audience, with its organizing team shaping the festival from the outside in. The desire to ensure good practice, transparency, and fairness in the selection of works remains constant. International calls for works in electroacoustic music, acousmatic music, installations, New Media, and digitally processed photography have fostered a healthy competitive environment, with selection criteria guaranteed by juries. The geographic distribution of works showcased and exhibited has been generous, extending beyond Europe to North and South America, as well as Australia and Asia. The juries have included notable figures such as Octavian Nemescu, Ștefan Dorel Găină, Gilles Gobeil, Robert Rowe, João Pedro Oliveira, Călin Ioachimescu, Clemens von Reusner, Eldad Tsabary, and Erdem Helvacıoğlu.
